Your Tokyo hotel is booked. You already have restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing planned. But you would still like to play one round of golf in Japan.
You do not need to turn the rest of your trip into a multi-day golf tour.
A Tokyo golf day trip can be built around the itinerary you already have: your driver picks you up at your hotel in the morning, takes you to a golf course outside central Tokyo, assists with the initial clubhouse check-in, and returns to pick you up after your round.
The part that requires planning is not simply finding a golf course.
Course access, tee-time restrictions, group size, golf bags, vehicle space, rental clubs, lunch breaks, and Tokyo traffic can all affect whether the day works smoothly.
This is how we handle those details in practice.
Can Two Golfers Play a Round Near Tokyo?
Yes. Miramar can arrange a golf day starting with two golfers.
But there is an important distinction:
Being able to travel as a party of two does not mean every golf course will allow two players to occupy their own tee time.
At many popular or higher-end Japanese courses, four-player groups are still the normal operating model. Some booking plans specifically guarantee a twosome, while others allow two people to make a reservation but leave the course free to add other players.
This can even change at the same golf course depending on the day, season, and booking plan.
Miramar Does Not Arrange Join-Up Golf
Our operating policy is straightforward:
We do not arrange single-golfer bookings, and we do not build itineraries around being paired with strangers.
A single player may technically be able to use certain Japanese golf booking systems that match golfers together. We do not use that model for our private travel arrangements.
There are too many variables.
If another golfer cancels, fails to show, or the course reorganizes the group, it can affect the tee time and the transportation schedule that has already been arranged around the round.
For two golfers, we therefore look for a booking condition that allows the two guests to play together without relying on an outside pairing.
That also explains why a great course that works perfectly for four golfers may not be the best choice for two golfers on the same date.
Why a Golf Day for Two Can Be Expensive
A private golf day for two costs more per person because transportation is being divided between only two guests.
Miramar’s current base rates for a 10-hour private vehicle are:
Toyota Alphard: ¥55,000
Toyota HiAce: ¥60,000
Those rates are for the vehicle, not per person.
With two golfers in an Alphard, the transportation portion alone works out to approximately ¥27,500 per person before the golf course has been added.
Then there is the green fee, possible twosome surcharge, rental clubs if required, lunch, and any additional time beyond the scheduled vehicle service.
At a premium course, a private Tokyo golf day for two can therefore reach or exceed ¥60,000 per person.
For four golfers, the same transportation cost is divided among four people, so the economics become quite different.
This is why we normally ask about budget before recommending the course rather than simply starting with the most famous name.
Which Golf Courses Can Work for a Day Trip From Tokyo?
For guests staying in Tokyo, we often look toward Chiba, Narita, and southern Ibaraki.
These areas offer a good concentration of higher-quality courses while still making a same-day return to Tokyo realistic.
The courses below are examples of the level we may consider. They are not a list of courses that are guaranteed to be available.
Golf-course access in Japan depends on the date, number of golfers, booking window, visitor rules, and the type of tee time available.
Narashino Country Club
Narashino is one of the most internationally recognized courses within day-trip range of Tokyo and is part of Accordia Golf’s premium GRAND collection.
Its tournament history is substantial.
The club has hosted dozens of professional tournaments, including the 1977 Japan Open.
It is also widely known internationally as the Japanese home of the PGA TOUR’s ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP.
Tiger Woods won the inaugural tournament there in 2019 for his record-tying 82nd PGA TOUR victory. Hideki Matsuyama won in 2021, followed by Keegan Bradley in 2022, Collin Morikawa in 2023, and Nico Echavarria in 2024.
For an overseas golfer looking for a course with genuine professional-tournament history, it is an obvious course to consider.
But availability, particularly for two golfers, still has to be checked for the actual date.
Narita Golf Club
Narita Golf Club is another Accordia GRAND property and has a noticeably more private-club atmosphere.
The course hosted PGA TOUR Champions competition in both 2017 and 2019.
The 2019 Mastercard Japan Championship was played at Narita Golf Club, where Scott McCarron won the tournament.
For golfers who care about the clubhouse, service level, and overall club experience as much as the scorecard, Narita Golf Club can be a particularly attractive option.
Glen Oaks Country Club
Glen Oaks is also part of Accordia’s GRAND lineup.
Designed by J. Michael Poellot, the course is known for its strategic greens and pronounced putting-surface contours.
The club has also hosted professional women’s golf tournaments.
It can work well geographically for a Narita-area golf day, but its booking conditions illustrate exactly why we check the individual plan rather than the course name alone.
Two-player availability varies by date, so a twosome has to be confirmed before the itinerary is finalized.
PGM Sohsei Golf Club
PGM Sohsei is one of PGM’s premium GRAND PGM courses and is located in the Narita area.
It also has significant tournament history, including the 1981 Japan Women’s Open, the Nichirei International, and international women’s professional events held around the turn of the century.
The course combines a higher-end club experience with a location that can still work well for a Tokyo or Narita-based golf day.
Two-player conditions are not permanent and may vary by date and booking plan, so they must be checked individually.
The Golf Club Ryugasaki
The Golf Club Ryugasaki is another GRAND PGM course, located in southern Ibaraki within day-trip range of Tokyo.
It is a tree-lined championship-style course designed by Shunsuke Kato, with a more traditional private-club atmosphere than a typical high-volume public course.
For golfers who are less concerned with playing a famous tournament venue and more interested in a refined Japanese golf-club experience, it is one of the courses worth checking.
Taiei Country Club
Taiei Country Club, near Narita, is not part of either Accordia GRAND or GRAND PGM, but it has its own tournament credentials.
The Hitachi 3Tours Championship, which brings together leading players from Japan’s men’s, women’s, and senior professional tours, was held at Taiei in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
It is a useful example of why we do not judge Japanese golf only by brand groups. Independent clubs can still provide an excellent course and clubhouse experience.
Taiheiyo Club Narita Course
Taiheiyo Club Narita is a different type of option.
The course was designed by career Grand Slam winner Gary Player and opened in 1999.
The challenge is access.
Visitor conditions can vary by season and day of the week, with some dates requiring a member introduction or accompaniment.
In other words, this is not a course we present as an ordinary public tee time that can simply be booked whenever a guest asks for it.
When the date and access conditions work, it can be an excellent choice. When they do not, we look elsewhere.
The Best Course Is the One That Actually Works With Your Day
For a Tokyo golf day trip, we do not start by ranking courses from number one to number ten.
We start with four practical questions:
What date are you playing?
How many golfers are there?
Where are you staying in Tokyo?
Do you require a guaranteed private group?
From there, we look at realistic course access, tee times, road travel, and the expected end of the round.
A slightly less famous course with an early tee time and straightforward visitor access may produce a much better day than a more prestigious club with a late start, difficult booking conditions, and a long rush-hour drive back into Tokyo.
That difference matters when golf is only one day of a larger Japan itinerary.
You Do Not Need to Speak Japanese to Get Through the Morning
For many overseas golfers, this is more important than the course ranking.
A Japanese golf clubhouse has its own routine: golf-bag drop, reception, locker procedures, starting information, cart or caddie instructions, restaurant timing, payment, and departure.
If you have never played golf in Japan and do not speak Japanese, arriving alone can feel less straightforward than playing at home.
With a Miramar-arranged golf day, the driver takes you from your Tokyo hotel to the course and assists you through the initial clubhouse check-in process.
You are not simply dropped at the entrance and left to work everything out yourself.
Once you are checked in and ready for your round, the driver can leave and return at the agreed pickup time.
After golf, you finish the clubhouse procedures, meet the driver, load the golf bags, and return to your Tokyo hotel.
The service is therefore not just:
hotel → golf course
It is:
hotel pickup → golf-bag transportation → clubhouse arrival and check-in assistance → golf → pickup after the round → return to Tokyo
For first-time golfers in Japan, that continuity often matters more than people expect.
Should You Bring Your Own Clubs or Rent in Japan?
Many travelers do not want to carry a golf bag around Japan for the sake of one round.
Many Japanese golf courses have rental clubs, so renting can be perfectly reasonable for a casual round.
The issue is selection.
A course having rental clubs does not mean it will have the exact shaft flex, brand, model, set composition, or left-handed configuration you normally play.
If equipment matters to your game, bringing your own clubs is still the safer choice.
If you prefer to rent, tell us in advance whether you need right- or left-handed clubs, how many sets are required, and whether there are any important specifications.
We can confirm the available rental options with the golf course before the day of play.
Four Golfers: Alphard or HiAce?
Passenger count alone does not determine the right golf vehicle.
Golf bags take up a large amount of space.
Four passengers may fit comfortably in a Toyota Alphard, but four golfers plus four full-size golf bags, and possibly travel covers or suitcases, are a different calculation.
Miramar’s current 10-hour base rates are ¥55,000 for an Alphard and ¥60,000 for a HiAce, a difference of only ¥5,000 for the vehicle.
When four golfers are carrying multiple bags and cargo space is questionable, we will often favor the HiAce rather than trying to save ¥5,000 and making the entire day less comfortable.
When you contact us, tell us not only how many people are traveling but also how many golf bags, suitcases, and hard-shell golf travel cases you will have.
That allows us to choose the vehicle before pickup day instead of discovering a luggage problem outside the hotel.
Golf in Japan Usually Includes a Break After Nine Holes
A first-time visitor can easily assume that an 18-hole round in Japan works the same way it does in the United States.
Often, it does not.
At many Japanese courses, the standard rhythm is:
front nine → clubhouse break and lunch → back nine
That means an 18-hole golf day cannot be planned around playing time alone.
You also need to allow time for arrival, check-in, changing, the first nine, the mid-round break, lunch, the back nine, showering or changing afterward, payment, and the drive back to Tokyo.
Japan also offers through play, known locally as スループレー, where all 18 holes are played without the normal lunch interval.
But through play is not available at every course or every tee time.
Some courses offer it only during specific seasons or at early or late starting times.
If through play matters to you, it needs to be discussed before we reserve the course.
Is Lunch Included in the Green Fee?
Sometimes. Sometimes not.
Japanese golf packages vary considerably.
One booking plan may include lunch. Another may include a fixed meal allowance. Another may charge for lunch separately.
We therefore confirm the actual plan rather than describing lunch as universally included.
Menus also vary by club.
As a practical planning figure, allowing roughly ¥1,500 to ¥2,500 or more per person for a standard golf-club lunch is more realistic today than assuming every meal will cost around ¥1,000.
At higher-end clubs, regular clubhouse meals above ¥2,000 are common.
The exact amount is not something you need to decide in advance.
We simply tell you whether lunch is included in the confirmed golf plan and what should be paid separately at the club.
Allow a Full Day for Golf From Tokyo
A golf course may look close to Tokyo on a map, but distance is not the same thing as travel time.
For many Chiba, Narita, or southern Ibaraki courses, spending more than an hour each way on the road is completely normal depending on your hotel location and traffic.
The more important concern is usually the afternoon.
An 18-hole round, mid-round break, shower, payment, and the return into Tokyo can make a 10-hour vehicle schedule tighter than it first appears.
An early tee time usually gives us more flexibility.
A late morning start can become difficult if the pace of play slows, the lunch break runs long, or Tokyo traffic becomes heavy in the evening.
For that reason, we generally advise against scheduling something inflexible immediately after golf, such as a nonrefundable fine-dining reservation, theater performance, important business meeting, or international flight.
Golf-course pace and Tokyo traffic are two parts of the day that no operator can completely control.
